Haiti Music - Haitian Voodoo:

Haitian Voodoo is a musical dance used mainly in spiritual ceremony. Some of the instruments used in performing Haitian Voodoo music include drums, gongs, and rattles. There are many different rhythms in Haitian Voodoo; however, the two most popular voodoo rhythms in Haiti are "Rada" and "Petro".

Haiti Music - Compas Music:

Compas, a danceable sort of music, was invented in the 1950s. The two pioneers  who deserve a lot of credit for the promotion of Haiti Compas music are Nemours Jean Baptiste with the creation of "Compas Direct" and Webert Sicot , with the creation of "Cadance Rampa". Nemours Jean Baptiste, aka. "the father of compas" and Webert Sicot formed Coronto International in Haiti, later to become Konpa Direk laying the foundation for Konpa music. Nemours Jean Baptiste was born in February 2, 1918. He was a writer and   saxophonist. Webert Sicot, born in 1934,  was also a writer. An intense rivalry developed between the two. This period was credited for the wide acceptance of Compas as a unique Haitian musical style in the Haitian society.  Soon, Compas became popular throughout the Antilles, especially in Martinique and Guadeloupe, where it is popularized as Zouk.

Haitian Music seen as Political expression:

Haiti’s vibrant and expressive music has been one of the most highly charged instruments in Haiti political struggle.  With the diversity in Haiti music, such as Haitian Voodoo, Racine, Twoubadou, Mini-Djaz and roots music,  Haitian people has been able to express their opinion in a variety of political issues.  Several artists had written songs depicting political and social problems in Haiti.
